Videos of the Current Build

15 years ago by Mato

This’ll be a short update, busy like crazy with work, but it’s not a bad busy. In any case, Draft 2 is still moving along. It’s in the 85%-ish area at the moment. I really want to get into the 90%s sometime this week, starting to really feel burnt out.

Jeff’s been doing tons of work with the remaining hacking tasks, he’s even finished a thing or two on the to-do list in the last couple days, but I think he still wants to test them a bit before crossing them off. I’ll let him do the talking about that later on when he’s done with it.

Meanwhile, the other day I was exhausted after a ton of real life work, so I started playing around with the current build, and it was neat seeing all these different things coming together, so I was like why not take some video of it. So I recorded the very first part of Chapter 1, it’s like 20 minutes long or so. There are no real spoilers, but the related videos might have spoilers, so be careful of them I guess. I actually wasn’t planning on showing this on a blog update originally, but I won’t have an update about Draft 2 until later in the week, so this is like a stand-in.

Warning: possible spoilers in “related videos”!

Part 2
Part 3

Naturally, I should add the disclaimer that this is an early version and text/bugs/etc. will be fixed and smoothed out and changed by the final patch. And yeah, I know about “The Flint” πŸ˜‰

It’s looking good now, but the game does have crashing/freezing/moonside-creating/etc. bugs, most of which is related to Block 0 text (which is the last really big thing to hack) so the final version’s still a couple months off. When things start to wind down we’ll have a more accurate guess for a release date.

Anyway, this is kind of off-topic and it’s been talked about in the blog comments before, but demi, one of the guys on our team here, recently started his own game business and right off the bat has an incredibly awesome-looking game coming out. It’s called Trism, it’s for the iPhone, and it comes out this Friday, for $4.99. I don’t own an iPhone, but damn if his game doesn’t make me wish I had one :O Check out his videos of it below, and if you got an iPhone, be sure to check out Trism!

Anyway, next update from me should have us past 90% with Draft 2. But coming up next is THE speech. The one that never ends. If you’ve played the game, you know what I’m talking about. I’m gonna need me some coffee for this thing πŸ˜›

Oh damn that puzzle game looks fun as hell, almost makes me wish I had an iphone.

Those videos are so rad… I’m re-stoked as hell for the translation. Amazing work on everyone’s part.

  5. kirby22003 said 15 years ago:

Ah. Looking great. Good luck on the draft.

  6. Ota_Himuro said 15 years ago:

Any comment on the Nintendo Power “teaser image”? πŸ™

  7. Mato said 15 years ago:

No, because it has nothing to do with anything. Besides, there’s already like a 10-page topic on it on the starmen.net forums.

  8. Vagabond said 15 years ago:

keep at it man, it’s hard work but thousands appreciate it and love you and the team for it!

  9. MotherLover123 said 15 years ago:

    Awesome, awesome, AWESOME!!!

i need to know what “the speech” is. i’ve never played M3
because of my low attention span of looking at a guide

    whenever i talked to someone

  11. Mato said 15 years ago:

It’s basically like 10-20 minutes of non-stop text near the end that explains lots of backstory stuff.

  12. DrΓΌ said 15 years ago:

    Incredible, Mato is
    Always keeping cool
Fa la la la la la la

  13. WVI said 15 years ago:

Everybody loves The Flint. He is a terrific athlete.

  14. Old West said 15 years ago:

I’m glad to see the game coming along beautifully as always. Looking forward to its completion immensely.

    On a quick side note, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trism becomes the next Tetris, from what I see there. I kind of wish I had an iPhone now as well. ;_;

  15. 199X said 15 years ago:

Man Trism looks awesome I wish I had an iPhone. Best of luck to ya Demi with that I’m sure it will sell very well. As always keep it up translation team you guys are awesome.

  16. Mighty Bear Seven said 15 years ago:

You guys are doing great work. Don’t burn yourself out, though.

  17. WVI said 15 years ago:

Trism is neat, but I’d hardly call it revolutionary. Still, a new type of puzzle game is always welcome. I like its design.

  18. someone said 15 years ago:

I cant help but feel THE SPEECH is 5% of the text in game but your the proffessional.
I have seen trism before but I had no idea that it was demi’s.
Any way keep up the great work, and may the flint be with you.

  19. G.Wicks said 15 years ago:

I know it’s just the second draft, but even so… it looks really great! The english text you guys have written so far simply oozes that delicious earthboundliness from it’s game boy advanced pores and other orifices. It looks like Itoi really has ramped up the quality of the dialogue, like I’ve heard so much about. I’m excited to play a game that actually livs up to its hype. I think you guys are already doing a fine job with the translation.

I’ve already busted a gut a few times watching these videos. Mother games are so… alive… it’s awesome.

  20. themaskedmuffin said 15 years ago:

    the previews are incredible.

    flint is a badass.

  21. Mike said 15 years ago:

Ah, getting burned out sucks. And ya can’t really stop since if you do the temptation to break for a few more days… weeks… months become REALLY strong. Well, at least that’s how it is for me, feel free to ignore all that. πŸ™‚

  22. Mato said 15 years ago:

gwicks: Hearing you and other fans say that feels reassuring; I’ve read, analyzed, written, rewritten, re-read all these lines so many times that I’m way far away from that “first time reading these lines” position now. So I’m glad that it’s at least amusing and acceptable for people. Even so, I still need to fix up a few nuances and over-wordiness and other things here and there, heh I’m such a crazy person that way.

Mike: Yes, that’s exactly exactly right. Usually when people talk about getting burnt out, it feels like they don’t REALLY know what it’s like, but yes that’s definitely a reason I can’t put the project aside now more than ever. Just a little bit more and soon this’ll all be over. I often mention how it feels like a marathon, I’ve never run a really real marathon before but man does this feel like that.

  23. mike k said 15 years ago:

Trism looks great but I hope it doesnt distract demi from the translation. It wont.

  24. confused said 15 years ago:

I’ve never played Mother 3 YET I’m waiting for this but still it sounds like:
    THE SPEECH *sudders*

  25. Rain said 15 years ago:

Wow… this is awesome! The way the translation’s going feels so, for lack of a better word, Earthbound-y. Its a style that I’ve never seen in any other series, that can’t really be mistaken for anything else. Good luck finishing this thing, guys! You’re almost there.

  26. Shazbotmoof said 15 years ago:

  28. Mato said 15 years ago:

Shift: that’s covered in the spillover board, so go check it out there πŸ˜›

  29. Shift said 15 years ago:

    Oh, THAT’S what it’s for! Tee hee… Yeah…

    Again, marvelous job!

  30. Some random guy said 15 years ago:

OH, this is great! Congratulations, Mato, you’re nearly in the home stretch! (for Draft 2 at least) And so far, after watching the videos, I can honestly say I have no doubts this will be EPIC.

By the way, Demi’s game looks amazing.

  31. Zade said 15 years ago:

Those preview videos are so awesome. It was really fun just watching it – every time you went to talk to somebody it was just fun.

I can’t wait ’till the day comes when I get to play this gem myself. G.Wicks really captured it when he said this game, like the others, is “alive.”

Thanks as always for dedicating so much so that we can enjoy this game – and best of luck in the times to follow.

  32. Itoi's Love Child said 15 years ago:

Thanks for the video, Mato! The translation looks fantastic. Hope you had a happy 4th.

  33. Andy said 15 years ago:

It’s hard to believe that this is just draft 2, since it already has a translated script that surpasses many other games. I’m glad to see that an effort is being made to keep Mother 3 as professional as it deserves to be. Great job Mato and team!

  34. gBev said 15 years ago:

Yay! The sparrow doesn’t crash the game anymore! I know this was fixed a while ago but it’s still good to see. I can’t wait to play this game.

  35. Coconut of Enlightenment said 15 years ago:

    Videos are good!!!

And Mato, I don’t understand how you can say that you’re disappointed with your work when playing though the first chapter. I thought it looked just as good as EarthBound, if not better, and Andy is right: at least you didn’t make any mistakes like “Master using this and you can have it”. (Those who don’t get this reference need to play more classic games πŸ™‚ ).
And yes, I’ve seen Demi’s Trism game on YouTube and it really makes me want to get an iPhone, just because it looks so cool and I feel like helping out the people involved with this project somehow. Of course, if I really wanted to do that, I’d buy you a few laundromats and then you could use the money from those laundromats to fund the translation and Nintendo could try to sue all they want πŸ™‚ .

  36. RAIDERX said 15 years ago:

I’m getting an iPod Touch soon, that game looks cool, but I hardly pay for professional software, let alone homebrew. Sorry, I’m cheap.

The hack is looking great guys, keep it up!

  37. Mato said 15 years ago:

Not even for a $5 game that obviously kicks ass? Okay, Scrooge πŸ˜›

  38. Kalle said 15 years ago:

‘The Flying Mouse is poofing out its hair to look threatening!’

That is awesomely hilarious for some reason.

  39. Exp HP said 15 years ago:

Wow, I completely forgot how the original music sounded. After you play Brawl, you really get to appreciate the music in the original game. Really, the music in this game is great. There’s an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm on that I’ve never seen before, and I’m choosing instead to listen to the Mother 3 video full blast with headphones. And I really like Curb.

  40. Apteryx said 15 years ago:

That translation is seriously just as great as Earthbound. I know it’s pointless to tell you to stop beating yourself up over every line, but you’re doing a fantastic job! One of my big concerns for this game was that the text would lose that “Earthboundy” feel. But this just looks incredible and puts my worries to rest!

Man, can you imagine how much Nintendo would have paid a full staff to do this hacking/translating work? What would have been done by 20-30 people is almost now completed by (mainly)two. You guys get invisible bonus checks and an imaginary 2-week paid vacation for your effort!

Not to mention this is going to be one hell of an addition to your resume. I know you’re not in this for personal gain at all Mato, but surely the thought has crossed your mind, no? Good job, guys.

  41. Arsenis said 15 years ago:

    Hey Mato.
Why are you pitch black and covered in soot?
    =]

  42. Mato said 15 years ago:

Cause I tried to teleport into a building πŸ˜‰

  43. RAIDERX said 15 years ago:

Actually, the game looks almost worth $5, I may consider it.

  44. madlobster said 15 years ago:

Mato: 15% more, and you’re done with draft 2. Finally it’s almost over. As a programmer who nearly got a minor in Spanish, it seems to me that you have the most tedious part over. Now to the last part of hacking, the part that will consume all of your waking hours, but be quite satisfying when it’s done.

But that’s just how I’d look at it…

  45. RAIDERX said 15 years ago:

Oh perfect, I didn’t realize he was going to release it on iTunes. I have $5.25 or something on my iTunes account. Lucky me, I don’t have to actually spend anything

And yea, this will be my last comment for tonight.

  46. FMArthur said 15 years ago:

Mato, I don’t know if you are or not, but please, please backup your work on Mother 3 regularly. It might be extremely uncommon for bad things to happen, but you can’t leave it up to random chance. Random chance seems to have it in for the Mother series.

  47. Mato said 15 years ago:

As mentioned many times before, I back up my work regularly on an external drive, a thumb drive, and I even got a shiny new internal drive. On top of that, the members of the team have access to regularly-saved builds, so if by some chance a volcano blew up my house, they’d still have stuff up to that week or that day probably.

  48. Zade said 15 years ago:

^ “Random chance” being Reggie with a baseball bat and a bad attitude, lookin’ for trouble on a lonely Monday night.

  49. FMArthur said 15 years ago:

Thank you for the information; it’s very reassuring and I was feeling paranoid due to recent events in my home. I lost my Earthbound cartridge last week, and just a few hours ago, my oven caught fire and I came home in time to prevent any major damage to anything but the oven and the wall. But guess where my Earthbound cartridge was? Under the oven, mostly melted. I’m trying to figure out how it got there. Some combination of dog and divine intervention is my best guess at the moment.

  50. Mato said 15 years ago:

    Zade’s right, it was Reggie.

  51. Arsenis said 15 years ago:

“This just in!- House is blown up by a volcano! The only survivor is a man called Tomato, and he is really pitch black and covered in soot!”

  52. FMArthur said 15 years ago:

Attention Mother fans: Reggie has taken to raiding homes and eliminating copies of Earthbounds by any means necessary! He is very dangerous and has the ability to transform into a delicious frozen pizza! Keep your copy with you at all times for its protection.

  53. "Snake" Plissken said 15 years ago:

Right now I am in a cardboard box infiltrating noa HQ.

  54. dr.mario said 15 years ago:

I saw Reggie in the Costco parking lot on Saturday!! I did like a quadruple take–I was surprised how friendly he seemed… he was way smaller than he usually is in my nightmares. Also, I was surprised by how few of my names or asses he took or kicked, respectively.

On topic, the game is looking fantastic! I kept smiling and laughing at the dialogue… it’s turning out awesome, so don’t worry, Mato!

  55. Poe said 15 years ago:

Now I want an iPhone too. πŸ™

  56. CurtyV said 15 years ago:

Simply awesome. I am so enticed.

  57. Zaratus said 15 years ago:

I got a kick out of how everyone has to mention that you’re pitch black and covered in soot. Of course, in reality, everyone WOULD probably ask that, but in video game/movie logic, after one or two mentions, it’d be forgotten about.

Heh, reminds me of a running gag in a few movies, though the only one I can remember off-hand is Shaun of the Dead, where it’s mentioned a number of times throughout the movie – “You’ve got red on you.”

Oh, and then the part where the injury is being explained, asking you if it made sense, and that he can repeat it if you like, almost making you think you’re gonna get a YES/NO choice, which would be amusing in itself asking to have a trivial conversation repeated (as opposed to something slightly more important, like Buzz Buzz’s speech.) just to have another NPC cut him off.

And then there’s the rain part… Good stuff, good stuff. =P

  58. I Wont Pee Til Mother 3 said 15 years ago:

    Mato,

I’m sorry if you have mentioned this earlier, but do you have any plans for future translations of other games after Mother 3 is finished? With the amazing amount of time and effort you and JeffMan are putting in, I can understand if you wouldn’t want to even think of translating a different game after this. Anyway, thanks so much for all of your work.

    Cheers

P.S. Due to advice given to me from Doc in the last post, I WILL pee before mother 3 comes out, but will do so anxiously anticipating its release πŸ™‚

  59. Mato said 15 years ago:

After this, I don’t think I *ever* want to hack a game again. I wanna go back to being a simple translator, heh.

There was a time just a few months ago where I considered maybe translating Tomato Adventure for the GBA now that I can ASM hack, but no more hacking for me. I need to quit taking on so many big projects too, I wanna focus on other things or else before I know it I’ll be 60 and wonder where the time went πŸ˜›

  60. Monsuco said 15 years ago:

Wow, this is amazing. Truly awsome to see how it looks Mato. I doubt Nintendo could have done it this well.

If you don’t fix that bug, just add in a back story about “The Flint” being a new disco craze. Few of us speak Japanese so who would ever know?

I just realized something, Earthbound + Chuck Norris = Flint. That is why Flint is so cool. Hell, look at the demo for the canceled Earthbound64. Flint looks just like Chuck. The only difference is Chuck Norris would have roundhouse kicked the Pig Mask man so hard he would have just turned into a pile of bacon.

That Trism game looks like Bejeweled on steroids. I mean, Bejeweled on my Palm Centro cost $20, Trism is tons better and cost $5.If I had an iPhone or iPod Touch, I would buy that in a heartbeat, and other than console games, I seldom pay for software. I wouldn’t even use an alternative (or pirate), I would buy that. If I see a friend with an iPhone, I’ll mention it to them.

  61. Zaratus said 15 years ago:

Oy! I just noticed something, although some part of me thinks that I saw mention of it before, but rewatching that video reminded me. Of course, you know the name connection with Lighter and Fuel. But then you see them talking about Flint. Wonder why Lighter gets to be the finished product, with Flint and Fuel being stuck as things needed for said Lighter to operate. Wonder if there are any other interconnected names with those three. Very close, there’s a Ronson brand lighter, missing the B, but very close. =P And yes, they make fuel as well. =P

And, taking it a step further, to something a bit more subtle now. They mention how Flint and Lighter have been ‘quarreling buddies’ since they were kids. Considering their names, that makes me think of how you err, light a lighter. Striking the Flint with the spinny thing, err, whatever it’s called. Which, could be somewhat thought as ‘quarreling.’, an altercation of sorts, between the flint and the lighter which creates sparks to light the fuel.

Looking back at what I just wrote, all I can think of is, WOW, I’m a weirdo. Yet, I’m hitting submit anyway. =P

  62. Mato said 15 years ago:

Actually, Flint gets his name from a type of gun, a flintlock gun. There are other groups of people whose names center around various things, like pop culture characters, cleaning supplies, etc. but this isn’t the place for that.

  63. Zaratus said 15 years ago:

And even through all that, I still forgot one little tidbit I wanted to mention as part of the name trilogy (err, triad?). Just a little footnote, as to reasoning for not noticing it earlier. That being, simply because we’ve been seeing Flint’s name for YEARS now, so it’s just overlooked. Besides, Flint is actually a name, though not very common. Still, there’s people named Flint. (and then there’s people named Clint as well, (hrmm, that’s probably not a coincidence either, Cowboy Flint, Clint Eastwood.)) I somehow doubt you’ll find many people named Fuel or Lighter however.

Alright, I’m rambling again. Don’t worry, you (probably) won’t hear from me for a while again.

  64. Zaratus said 15 years ago:

(Final note – didn’t see that last post when I was typing that up, sorry!)

  65. Crosby86 said 15 years ago:

  67. Coconut of Enlightenment said 15 years ago:

In any case, I don’t think Demi’s Trism game will keep him away from working on Draft 3, since Trism comes out on Friday and therefore it must already be finished. However, I’m well aware that these two things aren’t his only projects. Are you sure you can’t get a less busy professional translator to do draft 3?

  68. "Snake" Plissken said 15 years ago:

  69. Qinopio said 15 years ago:

You’re awesome, Mato πŸ˜€ This is another of those mind-boggling things about the Mother games and the circumstances surrounding them that really wows me. Thank you so much for this project.

  70. Can0fMean said 15 years ago:

Tomato, I was bored few days ago and decided to read the “Earthbound and Mother 2 Comparisons” at your own site. After seeing it, man I’ll tell you, as for Mother 3 too, they couldn’t have done it any better even though if they’ve had 30 people working on it! I believe it’s all about liking the job you’r doing. You are an Earthbound fanatic, therefore you care about every slightest thing at the project. But I wonder how many really liked Earthbound when they were doing the translation? Its a good bet that at least half of them did that only for money.

  71. Doc said 15 years ago:

    On the speech:
Where exactly is this 10-20 minute thing explaining the backstory? Is it part of that ever so evil man’s speech nearing the end of the game? Because I read a translation guide for the story, and the important NPCs etc. And it no twenty minute speeches on what exactly happened… Or is it one of those things in the end of the game?

  72. Swallop said 15 years ago:

I have to admit, I’m surprised at just how cohesive you’ve made the writing in this game. Even in its unfinished state, this feels like a retail product. Props, man.

  73. A Fan said 15 years ago:

    > Some combination of dog and divine intervention is my best guess at the moment.

So, you found your melted Earthbound cartridge under your burning stove, and it got there due to dog and God?

Somehow, I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens in Mother 3 πŸ™‚

  74. Mato said 15 years ago:

I would love to own some shirts that say “I Survived Mother3.fobby.net” or “Where Were You at 55.6% Of Draft 2?”. Wouldn’t you like your own coffee mug saying “I Drank 2799 Of These While Mato Did What Reggie Couldn’t”.

  78. Vers said 15 years ago:

Tomato, you should know by now that your translation of this game is held in higher regards than an official one would be by many fans. There is nobody else in the world that I would rather have translating Mother 3, being that it is so important to me. I know you are the best man for the job. Even if Mother 3 came out in the US sometime down the road, I personally would consider this hack the definitive experience.

Just thought I should voice that. Thank you ‘Mato and Jeffman for the endless hours of hard work you all have put into this so far. Until this is finished, I will keep checking back…every few hours. πŸ˜›

  81. Owensboro said 15 years ago:

Tomato, I don’t really know what I can type out here that hundrends of people haven’t already said, but Thank You. Thank You for all the hard work so far, and I just want to say that it’s totaly paying off. From what I have read/seen of the game so far (from this site), the script is seeming spot on. I must have beaten Earthbound on the SNES 8-10 times, and this looks like it’s turning out even better then that. If there is anyway that us lowly, non-technically minded fans can help, please please please let us know.

  82. TragicM said 15 years ago:

Hey Mato, I noticed you talking about backing up files on several devices. Don’t know if you are interested in an off-site option, but I’ve been using a thing called dropbox lately that has helped me with a lot of projects I’ve been working on, including my Earthbound Portuguese translation (and it’s free!). http://www.getdropbox.com is their site, and I have a bunch of invites laying around for it, so if that looks like a sweet deal to you let me know and I’ll send you an invitation.

I still can’t believe how quickly you guys have completed what you have. It’s very exciting, and the quality is mind-blowing, even at this stage. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

  83. joe#2 said 15 years ago:

Thank you very much for working so hard on this patch! I’m playing through Earthbound for the first time on an Emu, so when I finish that, I can jump onto the Mother 3 bandwagon. Everyone here is rooting for you!!

  86. bubble-gum monkey said 15 years ago:

It’s official: M3 rocks. And since most of it is already done, I got to thinking about something. I know Wii can play SNES & N64 games, and I saw a few copies of EarthBound carts for sale on Amazon. Should I stick to emulation until the shop channel releases EB on VC, which will probably not happen until NOA says for it to, or should I go out and buy an actual SNES to play EB and other games like that? I don’t even think I can fit another console in my room (PC, PS2, GBC, GBA, and Wii). Ugh, but I don’t want to have to emulate on PC either because EB0 and NOT EB would be the only somewhat legal game I could run – need somebody’s help. If you can, thx a ton πŸ™‚

  87. ZelduhRawks said 15 years ago:

Just emulate it; no one is going to catch you πŸ˜›
There is no point in buying a SNES since you can play all the games for free. Or if you absolutely cannot do that for moral reasons, then just wait for the wii release. Buying a EB cart off ebay will set you back around $100.

Yay! The translation was somewhat hinted at in an interview with Demi online that I read. When asked about past video game experience he said “My largest contribution to the gaming scene was as a ROM hacker & translator (Japanese to English).” that would be the translation.

  89. Mato said 15 years ago:

Actually, he was probably referring to his past projects. He’s one of the oldest of the oldschool hackers, he was hacking/translating ROMs as far back as like 1997 or something if I remember right.

Still, though, I don’t have an iPhone. Someone should strongly urge Demi to release a PC build of his game.

As far as things that are actually relevant to the translation, I feel it necessary to let everyone know that I have officially hit the giddy stage, and that waiting over the next few months is going to be a nightmare (but in a good way, you know?).

  101. MrPopo said 15 years ago:

@bubble-gum monkey: There is a single magical device that lets you easily fit tons of consoles in a single room, on a single TV (assuming you have enough power strips): the RF switch. You can daisy chain a bunch of them together, and have several consoles feeding a single TV quite easily. It just hooks into the same port as the cable/antenna connection. And there really is nothing quite like playing the old SNES games the way they were intended. The only thing I emulate these days are games that never had a US release, so I rock out with the translation patch.

Currently, I’ve got an NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PSX, and PS2 feeding into the TV with an RF switch, along with a Wii and a DVD player on component, a Saturn on composite, and a PS3 and a computer on HDMI.

Let’s just say I get a lot of milage out of my TV.

That happens all the time to me (I have ADD). I’m one of the few who takes advantage of [and quite often, actually] the ability to Z back through dialogue in games like Paper Mario:TTYD. Unfortunately, 99% of games don’t give you the option to scroll backwards through text.
I’ll have to frequently make save states just in case that happens in Mother 3.

Watching that video (I haven’t had the time to watch the other two parts, but I did watch the Moonside thing) seems to give off the Earthbound-y feel, and it was done so beautifully. I see how hard you’ve worked with the translation, not to mention hacking, and even though it’s not done, it looks fantastic. You captured the feel that made me love Earthbound.

85%? Look at that and just imagine how much that you and the team have done to get this far. All of those bumps in the road did slow your pace a bit, but you’re keeping at it. You and Jeffman are probably tired (physically and mentally) from doing all of this.

  158. Exp HP said 15 years ago:

“The Flint” happens because the game uses the same hardcoded line of text for any characters gaining stats. Mato added “The” to the sentence, because in most cases it works.

    “The #ENTITY#’s #STAT# increased by #NUM#.”

So this works fine most of the time, but doesn’t work for characters.

“The Cattlesnake’s offense increased by 4.”
“The Smiling Sphere’s guts increased by 5.”
“The Flint’s defense increased by 6.”

And, unfortunately, to fix this, the entire system for how the game outputs text for stat boosts has to be changed.

  159. Exp HP said 15 years ago:

Say, Mato, perhaps you can avoid “The Flint” by not specifying the entity experiencing the stat change. What if it just merely said:

    “Offense went up by 5.”

Would it still be clear who is experiencing the stat boost, or does it have to specify the person in that sentence?

  162. Mato said 15 years ago:

Haven’t had time to read through all the new comments, but I was just testing stuff out and wanted to make various comparison pics.

Will probably use ’em in an update later.

  163. Mato said 15 years ago:

Exp HP: Actually, no, and I’ve noticed you’ve given wrong explanations about other stuff before, so uhh yeah πŸ˜›

The deal is that the game right now uses a custom control code there, but a few lines are shared by player characters AND enemy characters, and when I made the custom control codes, I didn’t realize this. So the “The” comes because the last enemy’s data is still stored in RAM, so the game uses that with Flint. I’m not sure, but I think that if Flint were the first to do an action, it would work correctly or possibly freak out. Anyway, that’s a little thing I gotta fix and I added it to the to-do list a few days back. It should only take a few hours to fix once I’m doing hacking again.
